PDV on course to decrease costs and to modify the method of working

The Product Board Animal Feed is on course to reduce costs and modify its method of working. The budget has decreased by 10 per cent to almost 7 million euros. Those who are directly involved pay these costs. In addition, the work has been classified into temporary programs and projects. The board of the Product Board Animal Feed has agreed to the plans for 2007.

With respect to the new method of working, Johan den Hartog, Secretary of the PDV says: "It means a major change of course. Transparency has also been improved. Those with a direct interest provide the funding."

The budget for 2007 is more than 0.7 million euros less than that of 2005. The PDV will therefore have achieved in 2007 half of the contemplated economies for the period up to and including 2009. The target for the cost reductions came from the Strategic Plan PDV 2010 which was drawn up last year.

The funding of the PDV costs will be, more than previously, obtained from those with a direct interest. As a result, the income from general levies are decreasing but the designated levies and charges are increasing.

The rate for financing and designated levies has decreased to 14.4 cent per ton of product. This is a decrease of 40 per cent compared to 2006 (24.3 cent) and more than 50 per cent compared to 2005. On the other hand, the charge rate for the coming year will increase by 20 per cent. A similar rate increase will follow in 2008.
