The need for independence of GMP+ is dictated by the nature of the current organisation. The increasing international participation to GMP+ is an increasing factor of mismatch with the PDV as a public, statutory body operating in the Netherlands. The Board was founded to serve the Dutch animal feed column. Currently, over 10,000 organisations participate in GMP+, one third of which are located in the Netherlands and two thirds of which are located in 64 different countries.
However, other developments also instigate the need for independence in combination with true internationalisation. Since 2007, companies with a sales market outside North-Western Europe have also shown an interest in GMP+ as a tool for discerning themselves in the market or to respond to a need for guaranteeing animal feed safety to buyers everywhere in the world. Among various groups of foreign participants, there is a need for active participation in policy preparation and decision-making based on a positive commitment to the GMP+ scheme. In order to increase support of the GMP+ certification scheme, it is important to honour this need by granting space for such initiative. The establishment of the new entity will provide room for all this.
As well as for specific wishes of certain countries that should be included in the international basis in order to respond to specific market requirements.
