Changes to the release procedure GMP Appendix 14

Intended for: Animal Feed and Transport Companies and Certification Bodies

The procedure for releasing a loading compartment for feed after the transportation of a prohibited prior load has been changed. In addition to release by an ISO 1702-accredited inspection body, it is now also possible to have the loading compartment inspected by an inspector from a GMP+ -certified loading address. Participants may apply the changed procedure with effect from today.

The Central College of Experts for the Animal Feed Sector has recently adopted the modified procedure in Annex E of Appendix 14. The changed ‘Procedure for the acceptance of loading compartments after the transport of prohibited loads' has been published today on the PDV website.

The old release procedure was difficult to implement in practice and was often not applicable internationally A new release procedure was developed for this reason. This new procedure requires that, after the transportation of a prohibited load, 5 neutral loads (not feed) must first be carried. The loading compartment should then be cleaned and also disinfected if necessary. The loading compartment may then be released by a loading inspector from a GMP+-certified loading address (GMP B1, B2 or B3 location) or an inspector from an ISO 17020-accredited inspection body.

Exceptions to release under this new procedure are LR1(E) loads which have to be released by the competent authority (in accordance with European legislation). It is also still only possible for certain LR1 loads to obtain a release from an ISO 17020-accredited inspection body. See Appendix 14, Annex E for this.

The changes to GMP Appendix 14 will apply immediately and are binding with effect from 1 July 2007.
