Updates of feed evaluation

Keeping feedstuffs evaluation up to date for the various species is one of CVB's core activities.

Knowledge on the (variation in) chemical composition is required in order to ensure proper evaluation of a feedstuff. CVB maintains a CVB Feedstuff Database for updating chemical compositions, continuously entering analysis data of feedstuffs. These data, derived from analyses in the animal feed sector, are provided on a voluntary basis. Additionally, a budget is available for conducting additional analyses on chemical parameters of which not enough are delivered voluntarily.
Updated feed evaluation further requires current insight into how various species digest feedstuffs and how it breaks down in their digestive tract. A budget is available for this topic as well.
In order to allow for a wider updating process of feed evaluation of feedstuffs, we aim to increase the net income from the sales of CVB knowledge products. Expanding the maintenance of feed evaluation aspects may involve various elements:

  • Better foundation of feedstuffs already included in the CVB Tables;
  • Conducting research into new, as yet unlisted products;
  • Developing feeding value tables for species and categories that are currently unavailable;
  • Within a species or category, conducting research into factors that have an impact on digestion characteristics (such as feeding level, age etc.).
