Working groups

The CVB working groups mainly focus on the technical content. This relates to memorandums, propositions, questions from users and scientific reports. Based on that input, various topics are discussed and decisions are made.

The working groups are installed on a permanent basis. The participants are representing various stakeholder groups. Each working group is dedicated to the feedstuffs of certain species (see below), concentrating on periodical updates of feedstuffs evaluation.

Furthermore, the working groups are a platform for questions regarding feed evaluation systems and nutrition and feedstuffs in general. As this concerns ‘variable CVB activities', these issues are often, after a summary review, subject to an advice to the CVB Advisory Committee.

There are three CVB working groups since the second half of 2007:

  • Working group Chemical composition and analytical methods
  • Working group Feeding of ruminants and horses
  • Working group Feeding of pigs, poultry and rabbits

Working group Chemical composition and analytical methods

Tasks:

  • Dealing with questions regarding the chemical nutritional analysis of feedstuffs:
  • Dealing with the average composition of feedstuffs as defined by CVB;
  • Discussing which results of relations (derived from CVB database) between nutrients within feedstuffs should be developed and tested;
  • Processing proposals for additional chemical analyses to be charged to the CVB budget.

Working group Feeding of ruminants and horses

Tasks:

  • Processing proposals for updating feedstuff evaluations for ruminants and horses, both after adjustments of the chemical composition and after new animal test data become available;
  • Discussing questions (both internal and external) regarding bottlenecks relating to existing feed evaluation systems for ruminants and horses.
